Brunch Time at Arts Café Tamara September 17, 2013 Food+Drink It doesn’t matter where you are in Montreal on a Sunday morning– there’s always somewhere to brunch. This week, we found ourselves on Fairmount at Arts Cafe. The food was delicious, the presentation was great, but what we really need to point out is the service. From the moment we walked in (and we were three women and two little ones), to the moment we left, we felt really doted upon. The restaurant was packed– even at 10:30am! Two very generous women gave up their table so we wouldn’t have to wait. We made sure to pay it forward and bought them some amazing lattes. We started off with mimosas and moved on to coffee and food. Throughout the meal, we were asked how things were going, waters were refilled, plates were cleared. It was the most unpretentious and friendly service we had received in a long time. The food: Two of us ordered the classic breakfast with bacon and toast. We could have “used” more bacon– that goes in quotation marks because while one can ALWAYS “use” more bacon… I’m not sure it’s necessary. The third in our group had the Benedict of the day. Just enough food, all fresh and local. Normally, I don’t love baked beans, but there were none left on my plate! And the bread totally made consuming white carbs worth it. When you leave, there’s an assortment of fresh pastries and cookies on the counter. The carrot cake was amazing! Don’t be shy to take something home for later, when it really hits you that the next day is Monday.
