Our friends over at Canada Night Life have done an amazing job compiling a comprehensive list of all the epic ragers that will be going on in our fair city over the Halloweekend. For those looking to spend their Halloween a little differently, however, here are some other ghoulish ideas courtesy of The Main’s Alternative Halloween Activity Guide.
1. Go on a Ghost Walk
Fantomes Montreal will be offering interactive ghost tours of the Old Port throughout the Halloween weekend. Groups will be given a map of Old Montreal and sent on a scavenger hunt to find the ghosts of famous Montrealais and Montrealaises. The ghosts will all be depicted by professional actors who will regale each group with the historical circumstances of their lives and deaths.
2. Go to a Haunted House
Peur Dépôt is a Haunted House-like experience created by famous Quebecois horror writer Patrick Senécal. The experience is based not on fear induced by monsters, ghost and zombies but rather on the basic emotional cause of fear: a complete lack of control. Ambiance, projections, animations and sound effects are all used to instill within visitors the feeling that their fate is completely out of their hands. Truly a terrifying experience.
3. Get Scared to Death on a Roller Coaster
La Ronde will be hosting it’s annual Frightfest over the Halloween weekend. The entire theme park will be decked out for the occasion and several Halloween-related events will be put on including a Zombie freak show.
4. See a Scary Movie
Spasm is a Montreal-wide film festival that exclusively features Quebec-made horror movies. Throughout the weekend at various theaters, there will be film screenings at which costumes will be mandatory. Many of the screenings will be followed by spine-tingling after parties and chances to meet the cast and crew of some of the films.
5. Go Swing Dancing (Oct 31st)
Café Resonance will be hosting a swing dancing Halloween party this Friday night. There will be Halloween-themed drink specials best costume contests, best dance moce contests and even swing dancing lessons for those who show up at 8pm. Roaring swing music will be provided by the seven piece Ryan Lague Swing Orchestra.
5. Go Bowling(Oct 31st)
Also going down this Friday, Notre Dame des Quilles will be hosting a Halloween bash with DJs Noah Bick and Sex Life spinning Hip Hop, Techno and Disco all night long. The venue features two lanes of duck pin bowling and $4.50 pints. What more could you ask for?
6. Go to A Silent Disco at the Tams (Oct 31st)
Go to their site, download the crowd sourced party mix and head to the angel statue at Parc Mont Royal where many silent disco maniacs will push play at the exact same time. The chance to rage in complete silence on the mountain makes this one of Montreal’s most unique Halloween experiences.
7. Go Trick or Treating
You may be too old to go ask strangers for candy, but you’re never too old to put on a mask, and pretend to be a 13-14 year old asking strangers for candy! Find a costume that covers up how old you are, practice your high-pitched pubescent squeal and head out to the suburbs for some free treats.
Which of these 7 alternative Halloween activities will you be trying this year?
