Depp fans, rejoice! Ever fantasized about Johnny Depp being a fellow Montrealer? Well, that fantasy will soon be played out on the big screen.
The beloved actor is set to play a Québécois character in Kevin Smith’s upcoming film, Yoga Hosers. Reprising his former role as detective Guy Lapointe from Smith’s horror comedy Tusk (released earlier this year), Depp’s character will be feature more prominently in the forthcoming Tusk spin-off.
Yoga Hosers—an action-adventure film about two fifteen-year-old yoga nuts’ quest to defeat an ancient evil in time to catch a grade 12 party—is the second installment in Smith’s “True North Trilogy”. Played by Smith and Depp’s daughters, Harley Quinn Smith and Lily-Rose Depp, these two yoga lovers team up with Johnny Depp as the quirky Guy Lapointe: a legendary man-hunter from Montreal.
The trilogy’s first film, Tusk, bombed at the box office, but rumours of Depp and Smith’s daughters’ on-set chemistry sound promising (and more Guy Lapointe couldn’t hurt!). Yoga Hosers may be just what Smith needs to turn things around for his Canadiana trilogy — watch out for its release in 2015.
