The following product is a part of our THINK Montreal series: a collection of goods by local designer and retailer Main and Local, curated by The Main. As two local brands that celebrate the unique features of life in Montreal, we’ve partnered up to bring you the very best city-inspired gifts and accessories to showcase the place you call home.

A Minor League professional baseball team from 1897-1917 and 1928 – 1960, the Montreal Royals‘ selection of all-star players earned them a special place in the hearts of baseball fans everywhere. The Royals made it to the championship of the International League eleven times, winning the Governor’s Cup at seven of them.

Despite their impressive averages, the Montreal Royals’ most historic contribution to the world of baseball happened off the field. Becoming the first major-league affiliate to sign a black player, the team effectively broke the “baseball colour barrier” when Jackie Robinson began playing for them in 1946.

In honour of their unique role in the history of both baseball and Montreal, Main and Local presents their Montreal Royals gear. With a sweet raglan-sleeved shirt and two hand-printed serigraph prints (including one that’s limited edition), the line has a throwback look that takes you back to the Royals’ glory years.
