For Montrealers who don’t live around Frank & Oak‘s original Mile-End storefront, it may seem more convenient to just visit their online store — at least, until this weekend. Now that they’re opening a second location in downtown Montreal, it looks like your days of having to hike up to the Mile-End just to check out the shop in person are over. And for many Frank & Oak fans, it’s about time!
First established as an online store in 2012 by Ethan Song and Hicham Ratnani, the brand has since taken off and expanded across Canada, with a permanent store in downtown Toronto and temporary/pop-up shop in major cities across the nation, as well as in Boston and Chicago. Being a Montreal brand with such an enormous reach, both online and off, it’s a wonder that they’ve kept their in-store business here so humble until now. The current Montreal location features both a Café Névé coffee bar and mini barber shop, but it’s undoubtedly smaller than what you’d expect for Frank & Oak’s flagship at home.
However, their second Montreal location—opening at 1420 Stanley Street—promises to pull out all the stops. According to a report by the Gazette, the 5,200-square-foot store will once again feature a coffee shop and barber shop, as well as having almost their entire online collection in store and even the occasional after-store hours event hosted on site.
As the Gazette states, the new shop is “going local with hipster Plateau coffee shop Café Névé and Pas d’cochon dans mon salon for food and drink, and local talent like Kanva for architecture, Lambert et Fils for art installations and art, and Coppers and Brasses, an independent foundry and font specialist, for signs and painting.” What’s more, you can also shop online and go pick up your items at the location, with access to your Frank & Oak online account in store as well.
Frank & Oak is already a household name in men’s fashion throughout Montreal and is quickly becoming a staple in menswear throughout the country as well. While they’re easily one of the most coveted labels online today, we’re happy to see that this beloved Montreal brand is still dedicated to making their products as accessible as possible for the folks at home.
